After he was murdered, I don’t say “martyred” as most Mormons do; you’ll see why if you read what actually happened his son finished the memoir. Pratt By Matthew J. During his era the availability of cheap pamphlets and newspapers rapidly increased, and opponents of the Church used the printed word to condemn the Saints and misrepresent their beliefs.
It has given me an even greater desire to learn the history, especially its nuances, of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Finally, I will state that is story is full of emotion. He was baptized, sought out the prophet, became an apostle, went on mission after mission both stateside and internationally to Europe and South America, was driven with the Saints from Ohio, Illinois, and Missouri, was imprisoned with Joseph Smith without a trial, lived through Joseph’s martyrdom and went wi Parley is an amazing man who lived during an amazing time in the Church’s history.

In England he received an assignment to publish a new hymnal. He says he finds it hard to believe that intelligent people can’t autobiiography the difference between polygamy and adultry.
It’s very intriguing reading about his travels throughout the state of Utah describing the different areas before the many different cities were established. Building what was needed.
While serving a mission in Canada inElder Pratt helped convert several individuals who became some of the first missionaries to England, including John Taylor, who later became the third President of the Church. I guess I knew it was named after him, but really–it was named after him! I read all day; eating was a burden, I had no desire for food; sleep was a burden when the night came for I preferred reading to sleep.
In the generation following the American Revolution, new technology and expanding transportation networks revolutionized the economy, propelling many towards success but consigning others to poverty. Parley was comfortable with various literary genres and wrote poetry, fiction, hymns, short essays, and expansive books. His argument is so clear and concise and moving. Autobjography traveled to many different settings and most of the time he tells he had to travel on foot, he states. I also enjoyed reading about the various escapes that Pratt made from enemies of the Church. If you didn’t personally, then zutobiography many others did. That said, I give the first half of the book 5 stars and read it very quickly but somewhere in the middle, the narrative was lost and it was difficult to move through. Parley and his family were among those who left Nauvoo in frigid weather in February And I didn’t know that he was tracked down for miles by some enemies and murdered at age 50 while away on another assignment!
I even read about some of his missions, and was amazed. I know he was poetic and wrote many songs, autboiography some of them I autobiographyy do without. The book is hopelessly biased prqtt very selective. Some of my favorite parts of Parley’s history were his interactions with antagonistic autobiogralhy, his passionate sermons and testimonies of the gospel, and the tremendous detail he provides regarding the severe persecutions the Latter-day Saints experienced in Missouri.

Preaching the gospel at the drop of a hat and defending the faith with creativity, scripture and intelligence. I had a hard time with the end of the book, too, as the author died before finishing, and his son was left to stitch together letters and journal entries to account for the remaining four years.
In a more personal vein, his lively autobiography, written soon before his death but published thereafter, captures the spirit and excitement of the early decades of the Restoration. Brother Pratt was an example of a hard worker that truly gave his life to Christ.
