Reading Palinuro of Mexico makes for a rather demanding relationship. Del Paso favours the maximal form— Palinuro mesico Mexico and News From the Empire are sprawling imaginative playgrounds, concerned with the seemingly limitless possibilities of the human mind to transcend anything with everything.
