That was perhaps my favourite aspect of the book. Partially it’s because there was so much telling it felt like there’d be an exam to pass at the end. Mostly it was because read the prologue, you’ve pretty much read the whole book.
They are generally completely overrun with referrals and work and as a result, things slip through the cracks. I have read a couple of this author’s books and enjoyed them.
Sep 28, Joan rated it liked it. Each chapter gives a different individual’s story, from the police to the foster parents and Jake’s siblings; how they viewed the case and it’s aftermath, gradually revealing the truth at the end of the book.
The author’s writing is really easy to read, well-paced and convincing; from the first chapter I was already chid by the story and this feeling only increased as I continued, until the very end. It’s written in the form where each chapter is from a different perspective, from the sister Lauren, to the police Sargent, the brother, sister, various foster parents, reporters, coroners etc this is interesting approach and allows the whole multi faceted view of a single event.
In Victorian police were called to a home on a housing estate an hour west of Melbourne. I do think the book gave a good example of the long standing impact of childhood trauma which is so important.

Not highbrow, but an enjoyable read nonetheless and I would probably read another book of hers. Like other reviews I’ve read, I had to keep reminding myself that this book was fiction. This new court case will catapult her into the spotlight again but chilld will also force her to confront what really happened that day to her brother so long ago.
Sometimes things are not overly dramatic. Beautifully written, heart breaking.
That is the natural order of the world. He gives us children. Again she’s written chapter by chapter from different characters’ perspectives. The writing itself is good – well paced and fairly tight. Leave this field blank. Something must be about to happen to her. This author continues to blow me away the story line was fantastic and so were the characters, well worth reading: And pretty soon, as it turns into a murder enquiry, people want answers.

But the people who work is these jobs, work extremely hard despite the limitations of the system. Caroline has published five books. I get the feeling she’s seen a lot if this stuff in her career as a journo. There, they found a five-year-old boy lying on the carpet. The Big Reveal at the end didn’t work for me, I admit. I was expecting there to be a different link from the past to the present and so I was a little puzzled when I realised I was down to the last couple of chapters.
In fact, you could be forgiven for mistaking this book as non-fiction instead of a work of fiction. It just all sounds real. Immediately suspicious catoline turn to the mother — only 26, 4 children to 3 different fathers, none of whom ovfrington in the picture.
